English Copywriter in Germany: Jacqueline Dunn

Jaqueline is an American who has grew up in Germany. She’s a copywriter that works with small businesses within and without Germany to help them elevate their brand awareness and magnify their profits.

Tell us a little about you. How did you get your start as a copywriter in Germany? How long have you been in business? Describe your copywriting style.

I used to write copy (not knowing that it was called that) when I was an investor relations manager. During the pandemic, I came across the term so many times that I just had to check it out. I studied it, fell in love with the entire "art" of copywriting and turned it into my ‘side gig’ 2 years ago, which will turn into full-time as of April this year!

My copywriting style is simple, straight-forward, friendly, always ethical and honest with a twinge of quirkiness and fun depending on the client. I adapt to the brand voice of my clients and help them to discover it, if they haven't yet figured it out. ;-)

I love the versatility of copy and the various niches I've worked for, the psychology of it. And being able to support my clients so that they shine and attract more customers, leading to more success, is always the ultimate goal.

What is your approach to writing copy for a website?

If it's brand new copy, I ask a series of questions to determine the company goals, brand voice, the potential target avatar (one avatar), who the competing brands are and the messaging that will successfully attract new leads and keep customers coming back for more.

Once all of this is in place, researched and analyzed, the copy is written. Possible coordination with a designer if the company has one, 2 drafts/revisions and a toast to success.

What type of clients do you like to work with? Any specific industries or sectors (creatives, health professions, coaches, etc.) you prefer or excel in?

I love working life, holistic, business, personal and fitness coaches. I believe in what they do and their ability to genuinely help people become the best versions of themselves... and the world a better place. Especially, when the world has been stricken on so many levels, people need coaches and or therapists.

Those are the next people on my list of clients, therapists. My hat is off to all of them.

Fashion, natural cosmetics, pets, travel, nutrition, personal development (a big one), anything ECO and education are also niches I service.

Do you work with native English speakers or German speakers as well? Do you have a preference?

I work with both and can translate from German to English professionally. Although my preference for writing copy is certainly English. Smaller projects like product descriptions, or social media captions isn't a problem in either language.

What are 1-3 tips you’d give someone preparing to work with a copywriter for their website?

1) Be prepared to answer a lot of questions, about you and your audience, give as much info as possible.... as well as personal info about youas. People out there want to know who you are as a person. Builds trust.

2) Know what the goal of the project is. Is it more traffic, leads, more sales or something else?

3) Know the tone of voice with which you want to be projected out there. If you don't know, we can figure that out together.

When is your busy season?

Usually March-May and September/October are the busiest due to Easter, Summer, Christmas seasons.

How far in advance do you need to be booked?

It depends on my capacity, hard to say. To be safe, at least 1-2 months in advance.

What’s the best way for potential clients to get in touch?

Either via email or my website to book a call.
