Squarespace website designer - Web Design Services for small business - Eleanor Mayrhofer

I’m Eleanor, I help people and institutions who regularly publish ideas showcase their work, get their message heard and build influence.

I do this by assessing your digital communications strategy, helping you with your digital infrastructure (websites and platforms) and developing custom tailored distribution and channel strategies for your work.

Here’s my story…

A young girl with a daisy hair clip, wearing a colorful yellow dress, sitting in a wooden rocking chair on a porch, reading a book, with trees in the background.

1970s & 80s

I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I was raised by my Dad and spent a good part of my childhood in his letterpress print shop. You might guess from this picture I’m a reader and a bit of an introvert. Over time I’ve actually morphed into more of an ambiviert.

1990s

I studied graphic design at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. I graduated in the mid 90s, at the dawn of the ‘information highway’. I went from working at a small book design agency to working at lots of web start-ups in San Francisco. I also got bit by the travel bug, hard. I traveled to India, Cuba and Europe and longed to really live in a different culture rather than just visit as a tourist.

1999

I moved to Germany on my own to ‘check it out’ when I was 27. I came on a tourist visa, started a graphic design business (sort of) with a friend then managed to get myself a good job at a global digital agency. It’s a long story. If you’re really curious, you can read it on a side project of mine, The Germany List.

00’s

One of the reasons I stayed in Germany was that I managed to land a great job as a designer at Sapient (now owned by Publicis). I grew a lot at Sapient. I expanded my skill set to include user experience and creative project management. In my final role I was responsible for developing and rolling out an agile methodology for creative teams across the globe. I worked with talented people on complex projects for brands like Vodafone, T-Online, Audi, BMW, General Motors, Siemens and more. By the time I left I was a Senior Art Director. After ten years, though it was time to go. Here’s more about How and Why I Quit My Day Job.

2010 - 2019

After leaving Sapient I freelanced at various agencies in Munich and started e.m.papers, a printable business. I made a lot of mistakes in this first business, but I also learned A LOT. I gained a deeper and more first-hand understanding of online marketing, personal branding, e-Commerce and running an online business. I started experimenting with design licensing and my work was featured in Goop, Apartment Therapy and even the New York Times!

2020 - Now

I toyed with the idea of starting an ‘agency of one’ for years. I’d been regularly fielding questions about SEO, online marketing, social media, graphic design and building websites for friends and family.

As a GenXer that came of age professionally at the dawn of the web, I still marvel at all the possibilities the internet gives us for creating platforms and connecting. I’m not a digital native, I remember what it was like in the ‘before times’ but I completely embraced and continue to embrace the ‘after’.

I’m happiest working with people I’d love to sit next to at a dinner party. Here are some ways we can work together. You can also book a free, no-pitch consult with me to talk about your project or ask me any questions.
