What’s A Mini Brand?
When you book a Launch In A Day one day website, you don’t just get a website, you also get a ‘mini brand’.
As I’ve written before, a brand is simply what a persons gut feeling is about a product, person or service. That’s a simple way to describe a complex thing.
There is a lot that goes into creating a brand, and a brand isn’t just visual.
Your brand is in your copy, the way you work with your clients, how you dress and speak, the quality of the services and products you deliver.
When I talk about a starter or ‘mini’ brand, though, I’m talking about your visual brand. In the old days this was often called CI for corporate identity.
A corporate identity referred to the visuals associated with a company, the typography, the logo, the colors the kind of photography.
A mini brand is a junior version of a corporate identity. In essence it’s these four things:
A Word Mark:
A typography based logo uniquely designed to represent you and/or your business. It uses existing fonts styled and arranged in a way that aligns with the brand values you’ve identified for your business.
A color palette
We’ll work together to select a color palette that also aligns to your brand values. I’ll compile these colors as well as there technical values so you can use them again in other places like in your social media graphics, printed collateral, etc.
Typography
I’ll identify and document 1-3 fonts that like your color palette will also be used on your website and other visual materials you want to produce.
Photography
In the pre-work phase of launching your website in a day, you’ll create a mood board.
This is a collection of images that speak to the feeling you’re trying to convey on your website and your brand values.
Using a variety of (usually free) imagery resources I’ll put together a series of photos that represent the type and style of photography you should use going forward.
All of these elements will give your visual brand a cohesive, professional and put together look. I’ll compile all of these on what I call a ‘brand tear sheet’.
Your brand tear sheet is a foundational document. It will come in handy when you want to make updates to your website, create graphics for social media, presentations, YouTube videos, anything.
You’ll be able to reference the sheet anytime so you won’t feel like you’re always starting from scratch.
When you’re ready to really do a deep dive with your branding you can use the baby brand tear sheet as an input.
A note about Canva
I create your mini brand elements and tear sheet using Canva. I got my degree in Graphic Design in the 90s and ‘grew up’ as a designer using the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) but am now a full Canva convert.
I love working with Canva for two reasons:
It’s incredibly easy to create tons of social media graphics
It was designed for non-design professionals. So I can easily share graphics with my clients.
I love being able to empower my clients to use their own graphics files.
If you are comfortable in Canva and have an account, I can also simply transfer all of your mini-brand files to you as a Canva template.
That way you can start generating graphics from the colors and text on your brand tear sheet and really go to town. All without having to contact (and pay!) me or any other designer to do it for you.
