NOW Is The Time For A Professional Photoshoot

Like many people born before 1985, I really don’t love plastering my face all over the internet. But it must be done. Doing business online means that you may never meet your clients face to face.

Potential clients and customers need to get to ‘know, like and trust’ you. For better or for worse, the way humans do that is by looking at each others faces.

The response to posts with pictures of me versus other posts is simply astonishing. People want to see you.

I’m sure you are really handy with an iPhone, but nothing NOTHING replaces the quality photographs taken by a professional photographer. Photography is one of the items that I list as five things to have ready before hiring a web designer.

It’s not just about fancy equipment. A good photographer will see things that you don’t see; how the light reflects against your face, what objects clutter up a frame, when an image needs something in it.

She’ll know how to get the right expression out of you and encourage you when you’re posing or expressing yourself in a way that makes a great portrait or photograph.

I recently hired a photographer for a photoshoot. I hated every minute of it (because I don’t like being photographed), but the results were fantastic.

These photos not only elevated the quality of my website but I’m able to use them regularly in all of my social media and other communications. They serve as the basis of my visual brand.

Now is the time for a couple of reasons:

  1. It’s time to up your online presence and professional photography is a great way to do that.

  2. Quality photographers have time right now, weddings and other big social events have all been cancelled due to the health crisis.

So it’s win win. You get yourself a needed service and you can support a small business.

Not sure where to find a photographer in your area? A good place to start is wedding blogs, they often have photographer directories based by region.

Do a location based google search or search Instagram or even Pinterest. Use terms like ‘lifestyle photographer’ or ‘portrait photographer’ + your location.

Once you find a photographer, you’ll need to prepare. Create a mood board of images you like. Look for things that resonate with you; how the shot is composed, the style and mood. Create a list of shots you want.

A talented photographer in my network wrote this helpful post on how to prepare for a photoshoot. If you can’t splurge for an entire shoot than at the very least get some professional head shots.

Professional photography is an investment that will yield immeasureable returns, level up your online presence and totally boost your business confidence. Do it.
