How to Get Online Fast When You Have No Budget and No Technical Skills
It’s true, if you have a business you need a website. Even if you’re just starting and have one client. You need to have a place - that you own - online, where you can send people.
You can get something respectable live, quickly and cheaply. This doesn’t have to be hard. Don’t overthink it.
Here is my advice to get something live, pronto:
If you don’t have one already, get a domain name.
If you are still unsure of what you want to call your business, don’t let that stop you. Just use your full name. Chances are no one has purchased that domain and you will most likely have the same name for awhile. You can always change it later. You can easily and cheaply get a domain at services like GoDaddy.
Get a website.
You don't need Squarespace, or even Wix. I find Wix over engineered and confusing and I'm a web designer! Go to carrd and for 19 bucks a year you can have a great one page site. Take a decent picture with your iphone, and write some short copy. Need help? here are some posts about what to put on your homepage, about page and contact page, the advice also holds for text in a section of a one page website. Again, don’t overthink it and just get something up.
Start a mailing list.
You can easily plop in an opt in form into your Site. Choose something easy and mostly freee like MailerLite, it seems to be the new standard for starter lists.
All the marketing and online stuff can be really overwhelming. I think it trips up new business owners who just need to get started.
Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good, done is better than perfect, just get something up so people can find you. Launch and tweak, launch and tweak.
