Your Website Is Still Young

A typical question around SEO and your website is ‘How long does it take to see results?’ When you launch a website, it’s brand new. Google won’t pay much attention to it. Here’s what to do.

I gave my Super Basic Keyword List Workshop a few weeks ago and it went quite well.

I’ve since chopped it up and converted into a course that can be purchased at any time.

One section of the SEO workshop that got everyone’s attention was when I live demo’d my keyword research tool.

Punching in different terms and checking how much demand exists for a term and how easy it is to rank for is really seductive.

I did this yesterday while working on a site with a client and in just 20 minutes we were able to find some really good terms for her mediation business.

HOWEVER! Keywords are not the only factor that help you with Google.

Meg Casebolt, one of the people I follow for good SEO info put together this blog post about ALL of the factors that impact whether your website appears high up in Google.

It turns out there are nine(!) of them.

One factor that impacts your website ranking is ‘Domain History’, otherwise known as your website age. Any website under three years old is consider ‘young’ and Google doesn’t pay as much attention to it.

I don’t know about you, but as the years pass, I think about a lot of things I wish I had done when I was younger, like:

  • Socking away $200 a month in a mutual fund

  • Giving that nice guy with the funny teeth a second chance

  • Taking my friends advice that martini #3 was probably not a good idea

Now with your website you get a chance at a do-over!

You can find the right keywords, you can start building backlinks, you can make sure you’re not uploading images that are too big (stay under 700k!)

And if you want to generate leads and business in the future via SEO you can start a regular content creation process now.

I appreciate that this requires patience. It can be frustrating when you’re churning out content diligently week after week and not seeing the results you want.

But attention and experimentation with your website will pay off in the long term, you just gotta keep at it. Your future website will be grateful!
